This bakery uses plastic bread baskets which slide out
of the vehicle load section onto an internal tail lift platform; a metal
frame was fabricated with integral slide rails to just clear the TredAlert strip to
allow the skeletal plastic baskets to easily slide across. The installed
TredAlert
system provides the operator with an effective sensory warning that does
not interfere with established working methods.
The photograph opposite clearly demonstrates the
TredAlert
system installed to meet the requirements of Allied Bakeries.
"In Allied Bakeries
quest for continuous improvement, and the focus on HSE statistical data
relating to falls from heights, the business looked at a number of areas
that could improve the safety of our employees and implement new
solutions and best practice.
Focusing on
our ever expanding transport division and understanding the areas that
would benefit from some additional focus, we enrolled Pownall Fleet
safety & Security to attend a focus group on site to seek new
innovations that could assist the business in driving safety first.
Enter TredAlert. This is an innovative tactile matting which, when in
situ on the tail lift of a delivery vehicle, offers an unobtrusive but
effective underfoot tactile warning that silently alerts an operative
that they are approaching the open edge of the platform. We have tried a
number of safety solutions such as an alarm system which detected
movement at the edge of a tail lift, but this rugged tactile matting is
clearly the most robust and practical solution to the industries
requirement."
